Removals in Catford
Long Victorian terraces, the South Circular, and a town centre mid-rebuild.
Catford is the administrative heart of the borough and the part of it with the longest unbroken runs of Victorian terracing. Streets like the ones off Bromley Road and Sangley Road go on for half a mile with barely a gap, which is pleasant to look at and a specific kind of problem to load.
The town centre has been under redevelopment for years, and the road layout around Rushey Green and the two stations changes more often than mapping keeps up with.
South of the centre, Bellingham and Downham are largely interwar cottage estates — a completely different proposition, with front gardens, side access and room to stand a van.
The South Circular, the CPZ and the terraces
The A205 South Circular runs straight through Catford, and it is one of the busiest roads in south London. Loading anywhere near it has to happen outside peak hours — not as a preference but because there is genuinely nowhere to stop otherwise.
Most residential streets near the centre sit inside a controlled parking zone. We apply to Lewisham Council for a bay suspension where the street needs one, and that application needs lead time. It is the most common reason a Catford move has to be rescheduled and it is entirely avoidable.
The long terraces have no rear access at all. Everything goes out through the front door onto a pavement that is often narrow, so the van position matters more than usual and a shuttle is occasionally the honest answer.
Around the town centre, redevelopment means temporary closures and diversions that a satnav will not know about. We check the current layout in the week of the move rather than trusting a map.
The housing here
- Victorian terraces
- Narrow hallways, stairs that turn twice, no rear access, and a front door straight onto the pavement. Wardrobes get measured before the day.
- Interwar cottage estates
- Bellingham and Downham. Front gardens, side gates and space to stand a vehicle — the easiest moves in SE6.
- Conversions and HMOs
- A lot of the terraces are split into flats. Shared entrances, no lift, and often one room moving while the rest of the house stays put.
- New-build flats
- Around the town centre and the stations. Lifts and loading bays that have to be booked with the building.
