Removals in Deptford and New Cross

Dense, busy and student-heavy, with the tightest loading in the borough.

This is the busiest, densest, most mixed part of the borough, and the part where a removal needs the most planning for the least distance travelled.

New Cross is dominated by Goldsmiths, which means a large population of students and shared houses, and a moving calendar that spikes hard in September and June. Deptford runs from the market and the high street down to a riverside that has been rebuilt with tall new blocks.

Between them sits a tangle of Victorian terraces, ex-council estates, warehouse conversions and brand-new apartment buildings — often on the same street.

High streets, red routes and the Goldsmiths calendar

The A2 New Cross Road is a red route. There is no stopping on it at all during controlled hours, which rules out kerbside loading for a lot of addresses fronting it. Those moves run from a side street with a carry, or early.

Deptford High Street has a market on several days a week, and on those days it is closed to vehicles for most of its length. We check the market days before confirming a date rather than turning up to a closed street.

Around Goldsmiths, the end of the academic year and the start of it are the two busiest fortnights in the borough. Book well ahead for those, because everyone else is moving too and the streets cannot take it.

The new riverside blocks at Deptford Creek and around Convoys Wharf have proper loading bays and lifts, but both have to be booked with the building management, often days ahead and within set hours.

The housing here

Shared student houses
Around Goldsmiths and New Cross Gate. One room moving while five people carry on living there.
Ex-council estates
Deck access, lifts that are sometimes working, and a carry along a walkway. Surveyed properly.
New riverside apartments
Lifts and loading bays, both bookable, both with restricted hours.
Warehouse and workshop conversions
Deptford has a lot of them. Big volumes, industrial doors, and sometimes a goods lift.
